How to Prepare for a Bridal Appointment

- Maggie Sottero

This week our tip helps those brides who have yet to purchase their gown. Shopping for a wedding dress is exciting, but it helps to prepare yourself mentally and physically in order to make the best and most exciting choice. Your consultant wants your dream to come true, so here are some tips you can do to help her.

First, it is important to start with an idea. It's understandable that some brides may not know what style gown may be most flattering. With that said, it still does not hurt to look and begin to notice what aspects of gowns attract you. Bringing photos of gowns can help tremendously in conveying what style you are looking for. Your consultant will then be able to discuss and show with expertise while combining all your interests into one dream gown.

Next, consider who is most important to bring to your appointment. Many brides feel like they have to extend the invitation to a large group of individuals, when in the end more people can cause more confusion. Dress shopping is recommended to be shared with those closest to you. This is because in most cases, the bride appreciates the opinions of those closest to her...making these reliable opinions.

One of the most frequently asked questions is what kind of undergarments should I wear to my appointment? This is a personal choice as always, but we recommend wearing a strapless bra and shoes close to the height you may wear on your wedding day. Many times, brides add bra cups to their dresses to avoid having to wear a bra on her big day.

Another concern that may arise is whether or not to wear heels? Heels are not necessary unless walking around barefoot is not your style. If you prefer the extra height or have specific wedding shoes already picked out then by all means bring them with you. If you prefer to see bridal shoes in our boutique, we can help you select the perfect pair to compliment your gown. Just ask your sales consultant, and she will be more than happy to assist you.

Most importantly, relax and have fun. This is your once in a lifetime opportunity to try on wedding dresses... so enjoy the moment and don't create a situation where you become overwhelmed, like visiting too many shops and trying on too many dresses. Trust your consultants opinion too. Remember, it is her job to dress you up, so her expertise should be taken seriously. Schedule your appointment and be ready to experience something memorable!
